Large Doily
White - 120 yds
Variegated - 25 yds per Tulip
  (16 Tulips)- 4 each of Pink, Orange, Green & Blue
Medium Doily
White - 70 yds
Variegated - 25 yds per Tulip
  (12 Tulips)- 3 each of Pink, Orange, Green & Blue
Small Doily
White - 30 yds
Variegated - 25 yds per Tulip
  (8 Tulips)- 4 Pink, 2 Orange, 2 Blue
Place Mat
White - 250 yds
Variegated - 25 yds per Tulip
  (10 Tulips)- 2 each of Pink, Orange, Yellow, Purple & Blue

Crochet Pattern for Vintage Variegated Tulip Doilies Set

My Crochet Pattern Inspiration:

Every now and then, I go through my vast vintage crochet doily collection.  Looking at all the beautiful crochet designs and incredible handiwork which has gone into these masterpieces amazes and inspires me. Recently, while browsing through the collection, I came across an old tulip doily I bought years ago. This crocheted treasure was made using incredibly fine crochet cotton thread and was a bit the worse for wear. It broke my heart! I decided to recreate the tulip crochet pattern using size 10 crochet cotton thread and making the doily in various sizes. When the three round crocheted doilies were done, I had some crocheted tulips left over.  Hmmm… What could I do with them? I know! They would look great on the sides of a crocheted place mat!

All the crochet doilies and place mat crochet patterns are made using size 10 crochet cotton thread.  The crochet tulips are worked in a variety of variegated colored thread.  Each tulip has three crocheted petals which are sewn together to form the complete crocheted tulip. The sizes are as follows:

Depending on the variegated colors you choose for the crocheted tulips, you can create different themed doilies.  For example, alternating red and green tulips for a Yuletide theme; or using rich autumn hues for Fall. Whichever colors you use, I'm sure you'll love the finished crochet pattern.
