Indulge yourself with this delicately flowing crochet pattern for a sweater jacket. The lacy shell stitches around the edge gives it a distinctly feminine look that is perfect for a night on the town or a comfortable evening at home. Wear the jacket with a pair of jeans for a dressed down look, or pair it with a slinky top for an air of sophistication. Simple changes to the color and texture of yarn used when making the Shell Edge Jacket gives it versatility and a must have for your wardrobe.

Give this easy crochet pattern a try if you have always wanted to attempt a crochet clothing pattern. The jacket design starts off as a simple rectangle shape that even someone at a beginning crochet level can complete with little problem. A couple of seams to create the arm holes transform that simple rectangle into a jacket with a comfortable, and flowing shape. Easy crochet shell edge stitches finishes the jacket to give it an elegant or romantic feel. These basic crochet stitches come together quickly, so it won't take you long to complete. You just might want to make more than one jacket to have a variety of colors that complement the other items in your wardrobe. The comfortable and trendy design looks runway perfect on all sizes, from misses up to plus-sized women. You can't go wrong with this versatile jacket crochet pattern when all it takes is a yarn color change to get a jacket with a totally different look.

My Design Inspiration:
One day I was looking at a magazine.  I think it was Oprah or something like that.  While flipping through the pages I found and advertisement by Cache with a gorgeous model wearing a knitted white sweater jacket leaning against a car.  It was stunning!  I just had to make this crochet design.  That night just happened to be “date night” so I convinced my husband to go with me to the nearest Cache store.

I was so excited when I found the sweater.  I was even more excited when I realized how easy it would be to recreate in crochet!  While trying to inconspicuous, I held it up the sweater and stretched it out using my body and arm lengths to measure. As soon as I left the store I jotted down all the measurements to create an easy crochet pattern..

How This Crochet Pattern is Made:
Step one in creating this stunning crochet pattern is to crochet a big rectangle using double crochet stitches, worsted weight yarn and a large crochet hook.  After you have the big rectangle finished, you fold it in half and stitch along the side leaving an opening for the sleeves.  The crochet sweater jacket is completed with several easy to crochet rounds of shell stitches.  The instructions include diagrams and sizes up to 5X.
