Valentine's Day Toilet Paper Topper

Easy Skill

Size: Fits Standard Toilet Paper Roll

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn

Red (MC) – 4 oz, 264 yds (112 grams, 293 meters)

White (CC) – 10 yds (9 meters)

Yarn Needle

Crochet Hook: Size I-9 (5.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 5 sts & 5 rows = 2"

Abbreviations

BL - back loop

ch - chain

CC - contrasting color

dc - double crochet

lp - loop

MC - main color

rep - repeat

rnd - round

sc - single crochet

sl st - slip stitch

st - stitch

yo - yarn over

Special Stitches

Cluster Stitch (cl st): Ch 3, keeping last lp of next 2 dc on hook, 2 dc in st indicated, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Double Cluster Stitch (dcl st): Ch 4, keeping last lp of next 3 dc on hook, 3 dc in 4^th ch from hook, yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook.

Directions

Rnd 1 (right side): Starting at top with MC, ch 1, (center ch), ch 3 (counts as first dc now, and throughout), work 11 dc in center ch; join with a sl st to first dc. (12 dc)

Rnd 2:Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each dc around; join with a sl st to first dc. (24 dc)

Rnd 3:Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) around; join with a

sl st to first dc. (36 dc)

Rnd 4:Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) around; join with a sl st to first dc. (47 dc)

Rnd 5:Ch 1, working in BL, sc in same st as joining, dc in next dc, (sc in next dc, dc in next dc) around to last dc, sc in last dc. (47 sts) DO NOT JOIN, MARK ENDS OF RNDS.

Rnd 6: Working in both lps, (dc in next sc, sc in next dc) around to last sc, dc in last sc. (47 sts)

Rnd 7: (Sc in next dc, dc in next sc) around to last dc, sc in last dc. (47 sts)

Rep Rnds 6-7 four times or until Topper is desired length, ending with a sl st in next st. Finish off.

Edging

With right side of Topper facing, working in unused lps of Rnd 4, join CC with a sl st in any lp, cl st in same lp, skip next 2 lps, (sl st in next lp, cl st in same lp, skip next 2 lps) around. (16 cl sts) Finish off.

Heart

With CC, dcl st 14 times; join with a sl st to first ch. Finish off leaving long end.

Finishing

Using picture as a guide, and using Yarn Needle, sew Heart to Topper. Weave in ends.
