Aster Flower

 

Skill Level: Intermediate

 

Materials: This flower can be worked with any weight of yarn. Finer weights will create a smaller flower, and bulkier weights will create a larger flower. Use the hook size appropriate for the yarn you choose.
We used: Worsted Weight yarn and a size G-6 hook.

Abbreviations:

ch - chain

slst - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

hdc - half double crochet

dc - double crochet

Special Stitches:

Picot: Ch3, slst in 3rd ch from hook.

Directions:

Rnd. 1: Center, with Yellow, ch2, (sc, ch3) 6 times in 2nd ch from hook, join with slst to beginning sc. 6sc, 6 ch-3 loops. 6sc, 6 picots

Rnd. 2: ch1, keeping previous picots to front of work, [sc, picot, sc, picot] in first sc, *[sc, picot, sc, picot] in next sc*, repeat from *to* 4 times, join with slst to beginning sc. 12 sc, 12 picots

Rnd. 3: keeping previous picots to the front of work, sc in first sc, 2sc in next sc, *sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc*, repeat from *to* 4 times, join with slst to beginning sc, fasten off.

Rnd. 4: Petals, with White, attach yarn in front loop of any sc with slst; *ch10, slst in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 4 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, slst in front loop of next sc on Center*, repeat from *to* 17 times; join with slst to beginning slst. 18 petals

Rnd. 5: slst to back loop of first sc on Rnd. 3, *ch11, slst in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, slst in front loop of next sc on Center*, repeat from *to* 17 times; join with slst to beginning slst, fasten off, weave in ends. 18 petals

Note: for smaller flower, omit Rnd. 5.
