Valentine's Day Towel Topper

Surprise your loved one with this quick and easy to festive Towel Topper. Crochet this with Worsted Weight Yarn.

 

Easy Skill

Size: 5 ½" square(14 cm)

Materials For Each Topper:

Worsted Weight Yarn -

Red (R) - 20 yds., (18 meters)

White (W) - 12 yds., (10.8 meters)

34-hole x 34-hole square of 7-count plastic canvas;

6-hole x 34-hole strip of 7-count plastic canvas;

Small amount white felt.

Yarn needle; Hot or craft glue; Dish towel

Crochet Hook:Size H or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 7 sc = 2"; 4 sc rows = 1"

 

Abbreviations

beg – beginning

ch – chain

lp – loop

rep – repeat

sc – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

yo – yarn over

 

To Change Colors

Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color yo and pull new color through remaining lps on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.

 

Towel Topper

Row 1 (right side): With W, ch 18, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (17 sc)

Rows 2-18:Ch 1, turn; following Chart on back for color changes, sc in each st across, carrying unused color loosely across wrong side, ch 1, turn, at the end of each row. Finish off at end of Row 18 leaving 18" end.

BORDER

With right side facing, join R in first st of Row 18, * (ch 3, sl st) in same st, (ch 3, skip next st, sl st in next st) 8 times; (ch 3, sl st) in same end st, working along row ends, (ch 3, skip next st, sl st in next st) across to corner; rep from * around, ending with sl st in same st as beg ch-3, do not finish off. (38 ch-3 lps)

TIES

Sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 75, finish off. With right side facing, join R in opposite corner ch-3 sp, ch 75, finish off. Weave in loose ends.

 

Finishing

Place Towel Bar on Plastic Square matching one long edge. Tack Bar in each corner to edge of Square. Thread yarn needle with 18" end remaining on Row 18. With Towel Bar in back and at bottom edge, place wrong side of Heart piece on Plastic Square, having Ties at top edge. Sew in place through all thicknesses around outer edges being careful not to sew though bottom edge of Towel Bar.

Using letters below as a guide, trace, cut and glue letters from white felt to spell "I LOVE YOU."

Fold dish towel through plastic canvas strip.
