Easter Chalkboard

Easy Skill

 

Size: 12" wide x 15" tall.

 

Materials:Yarn Needle; Worsted Weight Yarn; Purple (P) - 2 oz, 110 yd (56 g, 99 m);

Light Pink (Pk) - 1oz, 55 yd (28 g, 50 m);

Small amounts of Green (G), Light Blue (B) and

Hot Pink (H); 12 mm Movable Eyes (2); Cotton Ball or White Pompom; Craft or Hot Glue.

 

Crochet Hook:Size I-9 (5.50 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: Rnd 1 should be slightly smaller than the outside of your chalkboard.

 

Abbreviations

beg - beginning

ch - chain

dc - double crochet

hdc - half double crochet

lp - loop

rem - remaining

rep - repeat

rnd - round

sc - single crochet

sl st - slip stitch

sp - space

st - stitch

tr - treble crochet

yo - yarn over

 

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

 

Special Stitches

Half Double Crochet Decrease (hdc dec):

(Yo, draw up a lp in next st) twice, yo, draw through all 5 lps on hook.

 

Ruffle

Rnd 1(Right Side):With P, ch 110, being careful not to twist chain, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 3 (counts as dc now and throughout), (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch as joining, * dc in next 22 ch, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch, dc in next 31 ch *, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch; rep from * to * once; join with sl st to first dc.  (122 dc)

Rnd 2:Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, ch 5, * (sc in next st, ch 5) to corner, (sc, ch 5) 3 times in corner; rep from * around; join with sl st to first sc. (134 ch-5 lps) Finish off and weave in ends.

Rnd 3:With right side facing, join Pk with sc to any ch-5 lp, ch 5, (sc in next lp, ch 5) around; join with sl st to first sc. (134 ch-5 lps) Finish off and weave in ends.

Rnd 4:With P rep Rnd 3.

 

Bunny

Rnd 1(Right Side):Starting at Head, with Pk, ch 1 (center ch), ch 4 (counts as tr), 17 tr in center ch; join with sl st to first tr. (18 tr) Do not finish off.

 

Ears

* Ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 chs, dc in next 2 chs, tr in next 2 chs, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in last st worked on Rnd 1, * sl st in next 3 sts; rep from * to * for second ear. Do not finish off.

 

Body

Row 1:Sl st in next 7 sts of Bunny Rnd 1, ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in same st, hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st. (7 hdc) CH 2, TURN EACH ROW. 

Rows 2-3:2 hdc in first hdc, hdc in each hdc across to last, 2 hdc in last hdc.

At the end of Row 3, 11 hdc.

Rows 4-5:Hdc in each st across. 

Rows 6-7:Hdc dec, hdc in each st across to last 2 sts, hdc dec. (At the end of Row 7, 7 hdc)

At the end of Row 7, finish off and weave in ends.

 

Bow

With P, ch 25. Finish off and weave in or cut ends short. Tie a bow and glue to neck of Bunny.

 

Grass

With G, ch 25, dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Finish off and weave in ends. (23 dc)

Cut 46 pieces of yarn 3" long. Hold together 2 stands of yarn; fold in half. Working across sts, using a crochet hook, draw the folded end up through a st (Fig. 1) and pull the loose ends and yarn tails through the folded end (Fig. 2); draw the knot up tightly. Lay flat on hard surface and trim ends to 1" length.

 

Eggs(Make 2 with B, 1 each with P and Pk)

Ch 1 (center ch), ch 4 (counts as tr), keeping last lp of each st on hook, work 3 tr in center ch, yo and draw through all lps on hook. Finish off and weave in ends. 

 

Finishing

- Glue right side of Ruffle to back edge of chalkboard.

- Glue Grass to bottom front edge of board.

- With H, make a French knot on Bunny for Nose.

- Glue moveable eyes on Bunny.

- Glue cotton ball or pompom on Bunny for Tail.

- Glue Bunny to chalkboard.

- Glue Eggs on Grass.

 

French Knot

Bring yarn threaded needle up from wrong to right side of work at A. Wrap yarn twice around needle. Tighten the twists and insert needle again at A. Pull needle with firm even pressure until the yarn slides through the wrapped yarn, making a knot that lies on the right side as shown below.
