BABY HAT AND SOCK SHELL EDGING
Beginner Skill
Size: Fits any size baby Hat & Socks.
Materials: Small amount Blue (B) Size 3 Crochet Thread; Baby Hat; Awl (available at any hardware store); Cork Board; Fabric Marking Pen; Yarn Needle.
Crochet Hook:Size E-4 (3.50 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: Not important for this project.
Abbreviations
Special Stitches
Cluster Stitch (cl-st):(Yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw through lp) 3 times, yo and pull through all 7 lps on hook.
JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.
Preparing the Hat
Working 3/8" (10mm) from the edge and using the marking pen to indicate holes, place marks ½" (6mm) apart along brim edge of Hat, adjusting spaces if necessary to achieve the correct number of holes.
Using Cork Board under Hat to protect the work surface, perforate the fabric with an awl an even number of times.
Hat Edging
With wrong side of Hat facing, join B with sc to any hole, ch 5, cl-st in side of sc just made, ch 1, (sc in next hole, ch 5, cl-st in side of last sc made, ch 1) around; join with sl st to 1st sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Preparing the Socks
Working 3/8" (10mm) from the edge and using the marking pen to indicate holes, place marks ¼" (6mm) apart along Top edge of Sock, adjusting spaces if necessary to achieve the correct number of holes.
Using Cork Board under Hat to protect the work surface, perforate the fabric with an awl an even number of times.
Sock Edging
With wrong side of Sock facing, join B with sc in any hole, ch 5, sl st in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, * sc in next hole, ch 5, sl st in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, rep from * around; join with sl st to 1stsc. Finish off and weave in all ends.
